چکیده

Abstract This paper focuses on students’ mathematical discourse emerging from interactions in the digital environment GeoGebra, which one can construct virtual objects that realize signifiers and then interact with them. These object realizations become dynamic interactive mediators (DIMs) influence development of learners’ discourse. In this case study, I analyze fine detail developed by two dyads students response to an unfamiliar interview question. One dyad came a class GeoGebra was not part classroom practice included who, according teacher’s evaluation, were standard-to-high achieving. The other generally demotivated low-achieving had practice. analyses, focused especially dyad, are guided question how DIMs shaped these According analysis, ended up succeeding where standard-to-high-achieving peers did not. Moreover, detailed analysis ways supported dyad’s learning showed mechanisms may be general rather than specific case. suggests appropriate integration into teaching high school algebra beneficial for students.

How to Tell a Logical Story

At the center of most plots in literature is a main character, who is stuck in a conflict and considers different arguments and options to resolve the conflict. In this paper, we show how to formalise such an argumentation process and we develop a formal argumentation framework, which caters for a declarative semantics of an argumentation process and an operational, efficient, goal-driven, top-...

How Can You Tell That’s a Door?

Object recognition is a task that people learn as small children, but which presents significant challenges for robotics. For some purposes, objects can be recognized by robots through detection of color transitions (outlines) presumed to be unique in a given environment, as with the spherical ball used in robot soccer competitions. Where outline alone is not determinative, but where the robot ...

Let Me Tell You a Story - On How to Build Process Models

Process Modeling has been a very active research topic for the last decades. One of its main issues is the externalization of knowledge and its acquisition for further use, as this remains deeply related to the quality of the resulting process models produced by this task. This paper presents a method and a graphical supporting tool for process elicitation and modeling, combining the Group Stor...

How to tell a new story about battering.

As Evan Stark observes, getting domestic violence against women recognized as coercive control will require a major effort of storytelling. Women's accounts of subjugation have to be narrated in a way that is both true to their experiences and capable of eliciting public understanding, sympathy, and action. This essay draws on an interdisciplinary literature on narrative to show why doing that ...
